Spinal and Bulbar Muscular Atrophy

Spinal and bulbar muscular atrophy is a debilitating neurodegenerative disorder caused by degeneration of motor neurons in the brainstem and spinal cord, and muscle wasting.

The condition is associated with a mutation of the androgen receptor (AR) gene.

Axol’s cell line derived from a Spinal and bulbar muscular atrophy patient is an excellent model for investigating this rare inherited disease.
