Description

Dermal Fibroblasts – Type I Diabetes Patient

Human Dermal Fibroblasts isolated from a patient clinically diagnosed with Type I Diabetes.

Type I Diabetes

Type I Diabetes, also known as insulin-dependent diabetes, is an autoimmune condition that causes the Beta Cells in the pancreas to be destroyed. Destruction of the insulin-producing cells causes homeostatic problems in the body, leading to high glucose concentrations in the bloodstream and urine. The etiology of Type I Diabetes is unknown, but it is strongly linked to the genetic background of the individual, as well as being correlated to a variety of environmental factors.

The Dermal Fibroblasts supplied have been cultured from skin explants taken from a single patient that has been clinically diagnosed with Type I Diabetes. These cells can be readily cultured in their current state or be reprogrammed to induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and differentiated to a multitude of other cell types.

Here at Axol Bioscience we can offer Reprogramming and Differentiation services, as part of our Custom Projects.

All of the cells provided are tested and are negative for HIV-1, HIV-2, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C as detected by PCR.

The cells are confirmed to be negative for Mycoplasma and other detectable microbial contamination.
